Certina DS Diamaster (Rado)
Cooperation with Rado
In 1975 Certina presented the Diamaster. The special feature was the scratchproof sapphire glass and the tungsten carbide case, which came from Rado. Rado itself used this cas for the Diastar models. To produce the case, first tungsten- and titan carbide with cobalt-
or nickel powder were pulverized, the mixture pressed and presintered at a temperature of 1'000°C. Then the blank were moulded into the final shape and finally sintered at 1'400°C. Thereby the case volume shrank by 30%,
which gave the alloy its high hardness of 8,5 Mohs. Finally the case were grinded and polished with diamond.
The Diamaster models were available with three different types of movement. As automatic, at first seemingly with the 25-651, then with the self-winding calibre 919-1, furthermore with the tuning fork calibre 29-152 and as a quartz version.
Furthermore, you could choose of three different case colors (white, yellow oder aubergine). So there were a total of 26 different models to choose. Besides the men's versions smaller women's models were available
One of the most beautiful models would certainly be the Diamaster with the Tiger-Eye stone dial, which yo can see in the overview below.
In May 1976, during his visit im Munich, the at that time reigning World Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali was choosen to be a Certina Testimonial. So he got a Diamaster presented how you can see in the report from the Certina company magazine "Echo" (issue Okt. 76) on the right side.
In 1977 a new model of the Diamaster with a new shaped case came into the market. This model was available as automatic and quartz version.
